Is this major(Game Art and Design) worth the cost?

I really want to major in Game Art & Design (Bachelor of Science).

The cost per credit, in the school I want to attend is $473.00 and the total amount of credits are 180 (Coming to $85,140 total).

It's expensive, and it's my passion to design games and also my dream to become a professional game designer. People have been telling me it's the perfect fit for me, but lately Ive been getting a lot of "It's not worth it", "That industry is horrible, you wont get a good job" and "You wont go anywhere with that" comments, and it's a bit disheartening to hear that from friends and even my own sister.

What do you guys think?
And is it true that I wont get a good job in that industry?

Things to note:
I SHOULD qualify for financial aid.
Im hoping to get a few grants and/or scholarships.

I would do an associates, but the school I want to go to only offers a Bachelors in that program.

I would probably start on an associates on something a little cheaper, but related, like programming or art / 3d modeling. make sure you enjoy the process as much as the idea of it. then transfer credits in.
