Book suggestions please?

Question

I am trying to make a list of 100 books to read for a project and would like some suggestions. But no teen novels like Twilight or anything about high school. I want something by or like Margaret Atwood or Carol Shields.

I have already read the Harry Potter series. I'm looking for fiction.

If you are looking for modern, grownup literature, I'd be sure to include 'Nobody's Fool', by Richard Russo; 'Charlotte Simmons' by Tom Wolfe; 'The Hill Bachelors' by William Trevor; 'Naked' by David Sedaris; 'The Memory of Running' by Larry McLarty; 'The Road' by Cormac McCarthy; 'The Color Purple' by Alice Walker; and 'Lonesome Dove' by Larry McMurtry.

Don't be put off by the ones that latter became films-- they were chosen for a reason.

Alice Walker has written a couple duds, otherwise, anything by any of these writers is worth your time.

Of course, if you are willing to go back a few years earlier, you get into the giants of the English language-- Austen, Twain, Dickens...

2. ON KILLING: The Psychological Cost of Learning to Kill in War and Society, by Lt Colonel Dave Grossman, teacher at West Point, psychologist, former US Army officer trained as a Ranger and as a paratrooper.

3. FROM HERE TO ETERNITY by James Jones.

4. OF TIME AND THE RIVER, by Thomas Wolfe (NOT Tom Wolfe)

5. TRUE CONFESSIONS by John Gregory Dunne.

6. All books by Rachel Naomi Remen.

What kinds of books do you like? Fiction? Non-fiction? History? Psychology? Biography? Autobiography? I'll recommend more great books.

Definitely 'The Lovely Bones' by Alice Sebold.
It was basically my favourite book at the beginning of this year.
I actually haven't heard of Margaret Atwood, or Carol Shields, so forgive my ignorance :s
