Serial experiment Lain...philosophy & memory question!?

I just finished watching this physcological drama...
It was AMAZING.
Sad, and just made me re-think everything that was going on.
There were so many philosophical scenes and the conspiracies
not to mention how they described "memory".
Well on youtube someone mentioned a great french novelist who wrote a 7 part volume on memory and how this show was like a re-make of proust. I googled Proust and now i'm hyped up to read the books. Can anyone link me to a site that has info on what the show basically talked about, philosophy, the need of a body etc. And also memory, why do we have this and "what is not remembered has not happened."

I'd really appreciate it! I've really fallen in love with this ! :P
