Can someone tell me why two different copies of a book are priced differently?

I have a copy of Heroes and Villains by Angela Carter. I know the tile is currently out of print. I did a search on Amazon to see how much a newer copy would run me. I found two different prices for two different versions and don't know why there's a price difference.

That's the cheaper version.

And here's the more expensive version.

Look at their weights on both their profiles. 4.5 ounces vs. 8 ounces. Either one is unabridged or just a special version.

Something equally strange:

Your first link is titled Heroes and Villians
The second is Heroes and Villains

Probably the first one is a page created user specific, not an official Amazon page. No clue though.

Depends on the company. Different companies use amazon to sell items. Obviously they are from two different companies, get the cheaper one.

Mr. Obvious here for you caller. Don't be afraid as the economics of how we get everything is quite complex. While I could give a speech on Economies of Scale and such, I will take a shortcut. Here we go: Company A is started and managed differently from company B. Due to thier differences, one has a higher cost per unit than the other. That cost is passed on to you, where in the free market you can buy either. Remember caller-this applies to almost everything.

The thing about amazon is that they request items from different companies, so when you buy something there, different companies charge different prices. It also depends on the condition it's in and if it's an older edition or hardcover or paperback.
