What's the music scene like in Australia currently?

Question

I like a lot of older Aussie artists like Radio Birdman, The Saints, and anything Nick Cave has ever been involved with (despite the fact he lived in Europe for a lot of his career), but I know nothing about the current scene.
What's popular?
What's the trend in the underground?
I'd go there and check it out, but I'm terrified of pretty much every thing that lives there (especially the insects). :P

There are some really amazing Aussie bands out there. My favourite being Gyroscope.

The bands I would say that are most popular at the moment would be Empire of the Sun, The Presets and Eskimo Joe. I'm from Melbourne and electronic music is pretty big here. THere are a lot bands mixing electronic and rock and doing it well like Cut Copy and Van She.

Aussie hiphop seems to be going pretty well at the moment too. With bands like Hilltop Hoods and Bliss'n'eso breaking into the mainstream.

In my opinion the Aussie scene was better a few years ago when rock bands like After The Fall and Something with Numbers were getting the attention they deserve.

I've sort of been drifting away from the underground recently but there are a lot of hardcore bands involved, such as carpathian and parkway drive.

The insects aren't so bad. Not many of them even bite, just the mozzies, spiders and the ants like everywhere else. And it's winter here so they're not really around. othere than that there's just snakes and I've only seen about 5 in my 21 years and most of them have been road kill.

I'm so glad to find another fan of The Saints around here :D

hi, i dont know about mainstream music, but there's alot ppl involve in rave music, there's always massive dance party every 2 months or so which comes from Europe(mostly Hollan).
