Is smoking weed bad for you?

why are there so many people who think weed is bad for you?
Weed does not kill brain cells
does not cause cancer
you only have short term memory loss when u are high but not after
it does not cause heart problems
does not cause birth defects
no one has died from it

i could go all day naming all these myths of weed and even when its been proven by scientists people still think its bad.why?

There isn't really any absolute answer to your query as this depends a lot on personal beliefs, philosophy of life and your personal choices. It is definitely not half as dangerous as it has been made out to be and there may be medicinal benefits from it, but smoking any substance is injurious to your health, if not to your brain cells then definitely to your lungs. There can be no denying that. Irrespective of the consequences it still is a personal choice as the dangers are limited and to your self, not to others. This makes it a lot safer than alcohol, which induces aggression, while cannabis induces relaxation. We've all heard of bar brawl, but I've never come across a cannabis brawl. Cannabis is calming and relaxing, and is in fact used in a number of states and countries for medical purposes today. It's been used in the past too. Queen Victoria was prescribed marijuana for god's sake. As with any other natural substance moderation is the key.
In the end it's your personal choice. If you're stressed out and find that cannabis relaxes your mind and stokes your creativity, and at the same time you would rather live a shorter but stress free and creative life, then go ahead. If you want to live to be senile and impotent then don't smoke any substance. That should make for a pleasant existence. B/w - some of the greatest literary minds smoked pot - Coleridge and Aldous Huxley among many others.

If you are a weak willed or weak minded person who easily gets addicted to anything pleasurable then you should stay away from cannabis, nicotine, caffeine, sex, masturbation, music, art, etc.. etc.... If your will power is not strong enough you can give in to anything that gives you pleasure and it will no longer give you pleasure but be an addiction. scientific research has proven that nicotine and caffeine are both a lot more addictive than cannabis. When I talk about will power here it applies to things like cannabis or masturbation, because the dependence is largely psychological, not physical. I know people on both sides of the spectrum, some who've been smoking weed occasionally for twenty years and more, without an addiction, while there are people who've been smoking for five years and are addicted, smoking it almost everyday.
In the end you need to be a lot more cautious about nicotine and coffee.
For those who talk without knowing much, maybe you should read the wooten comission report and the book 'A strange case of pot'. Cannabis was criminalized and vilified by certain vested interests and it was more political than anything else. There are health hazards, but it's a free world and we have a choice. Besides, trans fats are a greater health hazard as are the symbols of your culture - McDonalds, KFC, Pepsi, Coca Cola ... ..do I need to go on?
If non smokers have the freedom to chew on a juicy burger and die of coronary heart disease I don't see why I shouldn't be allowed to smoke some weed and die in peace.

smoking anything is bad for you. Any kind of smoke whether it is from weed, cigarettes, burning cotton balls, house fires ( you get the point) contains carcinogens which in large enough amounts or prolonged exposure can cause cancer. if you are not afraid of cancer, smoke away!

any kind of smoke inhalation is damaging to your health. (throat, lungs)

it does cause long term memory problems if you are a chronic user (haha- get it? chronic?)

eating it would be a "healthier" way to go- if you insist on using stuff that makes you stupider ;)

EDIT: i was addicted, many of my friends were/are still addicted. how can you say it isn't ??!!
my own long term memory has been affected.

do you have a friend who has been a habitual smoker for 15 years? if you don't notice anything "off" with them or their memory I'd say your mind has already been affected.

I justified it to myself the same way when i smoked. I understand you are trying to convince yourself it's ok, while at the same time knowing from your own experience it isn't.
I hope you come around sooner rather than later. (it's also really expensive!)

Because they listen to the doctors who are paid to sell us pharmaceutical drugs that's why. The fact is in the last 10 years Cannabis has been proved to actually help health its good for asthma and clears the chest this I am proof of and its is a fantastic pain relief again something I know also it has stopped me using antidepressants due to my illness which they have more side effects then Cannabis. It does has a few side effects but if its misused then it will for example if you smoke more than 5-6 joints a day then memory loss is more then likely but its only short term same with any drug if you abuse it.

Its not addictive you only get addicted if you smoke it with tobacco which is why there is an addiction. Its actually having more positives then any other drug the reason its frowned upon is due to the so called pharmaceutical companies who would lose a lot of money if we grew our own. It should be legalized and it would reduce the drug dealers pushing harder drugs to kids and getting them addicted to heroin etc. It does annoy me when drugs like paracetamol are legal but cannabis isn't should check out the side effects for this drug and ibuprofen you'd be surprised the side effects you can get from these compared with a few side effects from weed.

    Legalize it now.
