Done and power of good - meaning?

What does that sentence mean? "Done Maxim a power of good too, besides being easier from your point of view."

The context is:
(Maxim is the speaking woman's brother. She talks to the Maxim's new wife.)
'I think it's a pity you came back to Manderley so soon,' said Beatrice, 'it would have been far better to potter about in Italy for three or four months, and then come back in the middle of the summer. Done Maxim a power of good too, besides being easier from your point of view. I can't help feeling it's going to be rather a strain here for you at first.'

Hi,
I think it means this:
It would have done Maxim a lot of good if you (or maybe the two of you) would have done those things mentioned above (putter around in Italy for three or four months, etc. ) and besides it would have more closely concided with the wishes, needs, or conveniences of Beatrice.
