Yeah, Leonard Cohen is a good choice. If you haven't listened to much Lou Reed yet, you should check him out... "Transformer" is a must.

Some old Tom Waits records might fit the bill as well. Try "Frank's Wild Years" or "Rain Dogs"... or the more recent "Real Gone".
