Hi, Steve -
You should not take Stemulite if you are allergic to mushrooms (as it states on the bottle).

Also, the manufacturers recommend you do not take Stemulite if you are under the age of 18 since it was never tested on anyone under 18.

Here's what Dr. David Summers (who, to be clear, is not a medical doctor) told me:

"We have not tested Stemulite on anyone younger than 18 years of age. There is no reason why it could not be used but you should check with your doctor before having a 15 year old try it. Your doc might recommend a half/dose for a period of time to be safe."

The one possible side effect reported by a couple of Stemulite users on my blog was a noticeable increase in heart rate.

Here's what Dr. Summers said when I asked him about that:
"I have found only one report of tachycardia related to the use of either alpha lipoic acid or L-carnitine in the literature. In fact, both are considered to somewhat anti-arithmetic.

"What is likely happening is the increase potential of the electron transport chain (ETC) in the mitochondria of the heart is putting more energy into the cells than it can utilize.

"Older mitochondria get 'leaky' and this allows the electrons to spill out. One way to down regulate this condition and still utilize the benefits of Stemulite™ is to take at least 1000 mg of Vitamin C twice a day along with the supplement. The vitamin C should soak up the excess electron charge.

"Another suggestion is to cut the dose in half and see if that works. If not, she should stop taking the supplement altogether and see her doctor."

With hundreds of customers, many of whom have written about their experiences with Stemulite on my blog, we've had only three people mention this increased heart rate.

If you're concerned, please consult your physician before taking Stemulite or any other supplement. - Stephen
