here is a list:

- Brother I'm Dying by Edwidge Danticat
- Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel
- The Woman Warrior by Maxine Hong Kingston
- Angela's Ashes by Frank McCourt

Of the four I've only read Angela's Ashes, as it's set in the same city I'm from.
That should be good if you want something funny and sad at the same time.
The other three sound interesting, I might look them up.
