In The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy, why did Estha stop speaking?

I found the book to be very confusing and I couldn't figure out why exactly Estha stopped speaking. If anybody knows, please tell me!! Thank you so much!!

because of everything traumatic that happened to her during her childhood beginning with being molested by a food vendor
