William Butler Yeats was an odd duck. In a world full of Modernism, he stuck closely to traditional forms. While contemporary poets like T. S. Eliot and Ezra Pound were busy breaking down the entire history of poetic form, writing poems that jammed all sorts of forms together into a poem that started to work like a great big set of Tinker Toys, Yeats stuck to the classics.

kittens....each of them was obsessed with kittens, so that is all they wrote about....well, Plath once wrote of a dog, but in that one, it was killed while chasing a kitten

You ask a question to which the answer could fill a voluminous book. With the availability of the Internet, I suggest you read at least a few poems of each poet and decide for yourself what they convey through poetry.
