Summer reading for AP English - book recommendations?

Question

Which of the following 12 titles would you recommend for someone who enjoys suspense/fantasy/mystery/horror/science ficrtion/comedy novels. I also prefer books that are written in more modern english. I did not care for Catcher in the Rye (salinger) but thoroughly enjoyed Something Wicked This Way Comes (bradbury)

If you liked Bradbury, you should definitely read Kurt Vonnegut and Joseph Heller. Ken Kesey's book would be a decent third choice.

I highly recommend either One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest or The Bell Jar. Both are relatively quick reads and enjoyable : )

And I haven't read A Prayer for Owen Meany myself, but have been told to by at least three people!
