I really took some time to think about what to say to answer your question. Having lived in this country all of my 62 years and giving 13 of them in service to it, four of which were in time of war. I fought so that you could have the right to ask this question and to wonder if the question you asked is a valid one.

As a veteran and a man who dearly loves this country, I have no answer. I have a heart that aches because our young people have become so uninformed, so dispassionate, so ignorant, and so cavalier with the legacy passed on to you by the shed blood of patriots both liberal and conservative from the founding of this country.

If the survival of this great country, irrespective of political ideology, is to continue there has to be some passion and love toward it. Lately, the number of passionate patriots is fewer and fewer on Y/A and I can only hope that those who don't care one tinker's damn for this country on here are just a small number. Sadly, I'm afraid my hopes are in vain. God help us if we get to the point that there are no patriots to carry on our founding father's legacy.

Patriotism is a naive concept. There is no reason one should be loyal to one nation, for we are all one people. We are all Human, and thus we should be loyal to humanity. Under the same principle, we are all life, and thus we should be loyal to all life (aka the event we uncover alien life forms).

I don't understand why people insist on loyalty to nation but not species.
