Suicide ended the voices of many great poets. Why must they visit the dark side as well as explore it?

Dylan Thomas, Anne Sexton, Sylvia Plath to name just a few.

Additional Details

HP Yes, I know suicide isn't confined to poets. I just sincerely ache for talent that feel the jump off the edge is the only path to take.
Thanks for answering.

Puppylove your taking my question too literally. I am more curious to hear from YA poets who write on the darker side how they express themselves and their darksides.

Asker's Comment:
Mental illness isn't necessarily a bad thing. Crazy genius has moved humanity forward in great bounds, at times.

Unfortunately, life is indeed like a box of chocolates.

in fertile minds, many thoughts fester and grow into various ideas that, for some people, end in a place of finality....never will we know, the point where it all became enough, for someone to "go there"....

I find, that writing from a darker perspective, lends vision to the beauty around us. Thankfully, in most of us, there is an alarm that lets us know, the edge has come to find us. And we step back.

Most poets have that deep dark genius in them that writes like hell then leaves them exhausted...They tend to have had traumatic pasts when they write like that as well. There's another part of them, the part that dealt with the fear/anger/sadness of the events in their pasts and that is the part of them that writes their poems. Sometimes it takes them over completely, like they are possessed. Some others can tune out the entire world when they are writing and after awhile, writing the poems isn't enough and they have to do something else to deal...but they aren't really dealing with it. Remember! Suicide is a permanent answer to a temporary problem.

    EDIT
I'm not taking it literally....I am a darker writer myself...we have to explore it because sometimes its the way to create something more, the ultimate work of art..
