You know, I think that's actually a kind of mimosa tree, a kind that can grow very big in warm countries. The tree in the picture just doesn't have any flowers on it at the moment, but those leaves and seed pods look pretty familiar to me.

I've seen baby trees that looked extremely similar to that, which were mimosas.
