My bike has been in storage all year. How can I make it ride-worthy again?

I usually only ride my bike during the summer and it's just been sitting in my house all year. I know I need to fill up the tires with air, but are there any other things I should check on before I start riding it again? It hasn't been used for a REALLY long time..

Check the tire sidewalls for cracks. Replace if badly cracked.
Check the brake pads to make sure the aren't hard. Replace them if hard as they won't stop the bike well.
Wiggle (that's a real technical term;) the wheels to check for play. Grab the brakes and wiggle the bike front to back and see if there is a play in the headset.
You can use a quality oil, especially one of high viscosity meaning it's thick. Lube the chain lightly. Too much oil will attract dirt.
If you have any doubts, take the bike to a good local bike shop. Shop around and get some quotes as to how much they charge.
