How to receive texts free internationally?

hi, i have an iphone with ATT. i will soon be leaving for france and was wondering if there is anyway for someone to text me, and i receive the texts with no charge. im not asking how to send texts/reply for free b/c i will just be using one of those sms messaging websites but id still like to know how to receive them for free. right now its going to cost me $0.50 each i receive apparently... also if it requires a certain type of phone that would let me do this i would be interested in details
