The current discourse over the defining of 'marriage' and inclusion of 'same sex' is Obfuscation Revisited?

To quote Gertrude Stein," a rose is a rose is a rose". Marriage is and always has been defined as the union of opposite sexes; contrary to that given by Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary, 11th Edition in which the following is added to its 10th Edition: "(2) the state of being united to a person of the same sex in a relationship like that of a traditional marriage <same sex marriage>".

Just like your dictionary marriage has and always will be a social institution. That is to say it is defined by society, and if a majority of society has changed to the point that they will permit or tolerate marriage between two people of the same sex then the definition of marriage changes to become this societal norm.

There were those who said slavery and dueling would always be around because they always had been-- and they still are around but the dominant view of society has evolved to say these things are wrong. Homosexuality has always been around, it's simply that the dominant interpretation of homosexuality and marriage has changed.
