What is the best Digital Camer under $600?

personal experiences?
etc. etc. etc.

p.s. preferable not SLR as i like to take my camera everywhere with me so it needs to fit nicely in my handbag :)

plan to mainly use it for (in order of most usage);
-nights out
-pet and people shots
-beach photos
-scenery

For features and portability I would go with the Canon G10. It is not the smallest camera but will easily fit into a purse.
