What was John Adams economic policy?

What was the economy like during the presidency of John Adams? What type of economic policy did Adams support? Increase taxes, decrease taxes, trade? Why? What was the reaction to his policy?

He was a Federalist so he generally supported stronger, bigger national government with higher taxes and a centralized bank.

As president, Adams resolved to continue Washington's policy of international neutrality. To that end, he negotiated a treaty with France in 1800. But caught in the crossfire between the pro-French Republican Party of Jefferson and the pro-British elements within his own Federalist Party, Adams failed to win reelection.
