The quotation is "we suffer each other to have each other for a while". What exactly did he mean by this?

I felt it meant that I am willing to accept some of your personality flaws so i am not alone

suffer also, in its original sense meant to"allow" We Allow each other...we are pleased to have each other for awhile.
