How many phylum are there in the plantae kingdom?

I need a number... all the websites I've found just basically says "it depends"...

Twelve (12)
There are a number of different Classification systems so that is the answer they will give you.
But in accordance with Modern Biology (Holt Rhinehart and Winston) 1999.
Listed they are:
Bryophyta (mosses)
Heptophyta (liverworts)
Aththocerophyta (hornworts)
Psilotophyta (whisk ferns)
Lycophyta (club mosses)
Sphenophyta (horsetails)
Pterophyta (ferns)
Cycdophyt (cycads)
Gynkgophyta (ginkgoes)
Coniferophyta (conifers)
Gnetophyta (gnetophtes)
Anthophyta (flowering plants)

    Vascular seedless plants: Psilotophyta (whisk ferns), Lycophyta (club mosses, spike mosses), Sphenophyta (horsetails), * Pterophyta (ferns)

    Gymnosperms ( 4 phyla in recent books): Coniferophyta (conifers), Cycadophyta (cycads), Ginkgophyta (Ginkgo biloba --only 1 living species), Gnetophyta ( 3 diverse species)

    Angiosperms: Phylum Anthophyta (all flowering plants)

    Total: 12 phyla
