How do I pronounce Anaïs Nin's name?

I know the umlaut means an ee sound, but do I pronounce the S on the end, and where is the stress supposed to be??? Thanks!

Anais is pronounced:
Ahh-Nahh-Eese

no the stress is not on the 1st syllable, it's on the last one


Nin sounds like when you say "nah"

Yes, you do pronounce the S. It's Aa-na-is (go to this link, click on the name Anaïs and hear the sound file to get the pronounciation : http://french.about.com/library/travel/b… )

The emphasise is on the last syllable, as the umlaut must be pronouced and it prolongs the word. (Otherwise, a word spelled Anais would have been pronounced Aa-neigh.)
