Looking for a cheap kayak...?

Question

I'm looking for a good kayak for casual recreational use. It will be used mostly on a lake / very slow moving river, but I also have access to the ocean (lake turns into river and outlets into ocean).

Price is the biggest factor, but I also want something that would be appropriate for my intended use. Can anyone recommend brand, style, or size I should be looking for?

Does anyone know of anywhere I can get a kayak on the cheap, or how much is a good price for a used kayak?

the Coleman store, Bass pro, ***** sporting goods, are good places to find them new. They run some great sales at times, Paddling.net is my favorite information source. They offer a classified for used, and a directory for new. You might also try E bay they have great auction type sales and buy now's. Price really depends on style but 300.00 up is a good starting place, for a poly boat.

Thanks for the input. I was hoping to find something in the ballpark of $300 for a poly, but so far I haven't found anything less than $550 used for sit-in poly boats. Ah well, I'll keep looking... hopefully someone'll have a sale.

What you can do is find a rental place near you and ask them for advice on which kayak will suit you the best.

Good Luck...Kayaking is quickly becoming the craze!! Your best bet is to check craigslist or watch for sales. You can spend whatever you feel comfortable spending...they range in prices from $60 inflatable ones all the way to up thousands for the best...pick a price range and go shopping. Good Luck!!
