Sodium carbonate in solution consists of Na+ ions and CO3^2- ions. Magnesium nitrate is Mg2+ and NO3^- ions. Magnesium carbonate, on the other hand, is insoluble in water.

2Na+ + CO3^2- + Mg2+ + 2NO3^- --> MgCO3(s) + 2Na+ + 2NO3^-

The net ionic equation only contains Mg2+ and CO3^2- since Na+ and NO3^- are spectator ions.

Mg2+ + CO3^2- --> MgCO3(s)
