Poets - For those of you who have read my stuff?

Question

Do you think I follow the genre of confessional poetry?
By no means am I comparing myself to W.D. Snodgrass, Anne Sexton, Sylvia Plath, etc.
Just wondering - and also wondering - Do I say too much?

in a way we all write 'confessional poetry' even if its about the weather we still add what think about the weather and what we think about the weather is affected by our emotions - poetry is brought to life when we put in our own life - i dont think you say too much, anyone who accuses you of saying too much doesn't have enough to say themselves, some people may choose to be private or hide behind imagery and/or symbolism, others choose to just talk about actual experiences and sometimes we choose to simply take on a new persona (similar to what Musing said) but even when we do that, is there really no part of you that can relate to this new persona? just like Buk said, writing in the 'confessional poetry' genre doesn't make you arrogant, or weak or part of a cult but simply a poet - if thats how you wite then thats how you write and you especially write it very well :)

I think that all poets eventually confess but you just can't tell when.

In between/in spite of/clearly disguised pretty words I tell truths ...but I don't want acknowledgment

I tell the truth quite openly however it is not always the part that people believe, I spend too much time weaving fantasies that are a part of me but really have nothing to do with who I am or my problems.
Does that make sense?

When you write people will assume you are writing about yourself when in fact you are not. You are role playing, so in essense you expose yourself daily to a degree, but noone really knows what is poetry and what is you.

Does that make sense? I am never sure when I start where my advise ends up...

Cilla, I am not familiar with many forms or styles, etc. I just know what moves me. I know what makes an impression on me. I know your work inspires me, and keeps me coming back.

The real question is, do you want to write poetry about yourself?

Confessional poetry is typically construed as arrogant, although I don't agree with that assessment, all the time.

Changing past tense to the future or the present or going to the third person narrative seems to help this perception.

As for your works, I don't feel that.
They seem genuine and almost apologetic.

Do you say too much? Again, I will revert to my favorite Bukowski line (although I believe he is actually paraphrasing Mark Twain) "Genius is the ability to say a profound thing in a simple way."

The stuff you write is personal if you say it is. Otherwise the readers may guess. Much of the fun in reading poetry is 'searching' for the author's intent.

I think poets are exceptional observers, who search for truth's reality,
There are three truth's, mine, yours and the truth, If by chance I can
relate to your truth, through your words, then we are a part of each other. We are each a product of our time and experiences, how can we not be blending a part of our selves into the words we sometimes write.But a true full confession it seems doubtful we reveal the total.
I have not read much of your work as well, but as it is said, A good artist knows when to quit, you'll know. yet some are more needy then
others, to expose, while others try to write between the lines.

I may be wrong that is just a part of my view.
