Why is sodium hypochlorite in my laxative?

It seems everytime I come into contact with a laxative, it has some kind of questionable chemical in it. I don't know much about sodium hypochlorite, other then it is used in bleach. I assume it's toxic for me to consume. I have yet to find a laxative that doesnt have anything bad in it.

I don't know why it's in there, but probably as a preservative or to adjust the pH of the preparation.
