fatmat is a wonderful product for this. for 100 dollars. i got enough to do my trunk with 3 layers, my floors, my doors, and roof, and still have some left over.. if your just looking to do your trunk. i would suggest a product from fatmat called rattle trap.

Rattle Trap Trunk Kit
http://www.fatmat.com/kits/rattletrap/tr…

fatmat.com and just browse i used about 40 sq ft. for the whole trunk laying 3 layers on the lid and 2 layers across the whole trunk.. i have a fairly big trunk though

    Turn the volume down.
Or spend a lot of money to have Dynomat installed in the car. There is no way to completely stop all the rattles that come with a loud system but Dynomat will reduce it tremendously. Also try to locate any loose parts that rattle and tighten them up if possible.

Dynamat. It does wonders..You can pick up a trunk kit at like Video Kingdom or BestBuy or Curcuit City for $115. Best investment youll ever make.

If you have a nicer car Dynamat will make it look good... If you use all the foam crap then the trunk of your car is going to look like ****. and people are going to be like what the hell did you do to your nice cars trunk!?!?

this is a paste from my previous answer.

they say some bass power is robbed just from the energy used to vibrate the metal so it is worth it, there are less expensive materials out there like cascade or other mineral based sheets, and i have found material that seemed good for a dollar a foot for doing extra areas.

sealing the trunk helps also, i use spray foam insulation on seams prior to deadening sheets, u spray a small bead in seems let set for around 10 minutes and using your fingers press out the air.
What u get is a strong seam that is sealed, this stuff is sticky so u want to use gloves, u just let it set up enough to not be wet but still mold able.

after dynamat i have used rubberized under coater if u can let it dry long enough.
This method is great for doors also.

a heavy foam rubber pad on the trunks floor helps and there are some designed for car audio at 2 dollars a foot.

If you got the $$$ to spend all those previously mentioned products are great. but the dollars add up.
First I'd pursue chasing down anything loose like debris or cargo back there. Tighten down your license plate and holder, and any other nuts and bolts top AND bottom of the car. Most of that crappy sounding buzzing is just loose stuff.
Fnally two cheap products I've had good results with:
Modeling clay, about $12 for a ten pound block would do 2-3 trunks
and car undercoating spray, $5 at most any auto parts store.
The clay works wonders, try taking any steel bar or even a long 3/8 drive extension and balance and hit it with metal, it goes "ting..." then put a little wad of clay on just one end. "thunk". Use your imagination where to put little bits here and there. Use the spray over it, to reduce migration from heat. Then spray larger areas. Use the undercoating with high rubber content, it has less asphalt smell.
However, if $$$ is no object just go with dynamat, great stuff. (helps to use modelling clay UNDER it on seams and stuff tho!)

along with the dynamat and others suggested....line your trunk with foam padding (wal-mart, bedding section) and applying a bead of silicon to all seems will help a lot too.
