Ya, Steph must learn2vampiremythology before she tries to use her brain.
there are plenty of valid vampire stories written by respectable authors where sunlight has little or no effect on older vampires, or some where, like twilight, it's said that the burning in the sun myth is just that... a myth. the sparkling skin just reinforces her comparison with stone to skin.

I just to add, He was only to have a baby with Bella because she was still human then. And really, what's the point about arguing on whether the sun should or shouldn't hurt vampires, it's a pretty minor detail, and as long as she is consistent with her choices, then leave it, it's fiction.
