Suggestion about a Baseball Salary Cap?

I think there needs to be some sort of cap in baseball, but I also believe that a team shouldn't be forced pocket their money and knowing baseball, there would be all kinds of loopholes with the minor leagues, with players coming in and out. So I figure the best way to make sure all teams have the same chance at signing a player is to make a cap but instead of in the total salaries a team pays, on how much a team can pay to a player, ie. 20 Mil per year, that way the Oakland can bid for a player knowing that no team will swoop in and overbid for that player at the last second, so if all teams can sign the same player for the same price, there would be a little bit more parity.

I don't believe the Player's Association will ever permit the owner's to not allow the marketplace dictate salaries....the union is not as dumb as the NFLPA, which has all kinds of problems due to contracts not being guaranteed, etc.

The minor league system is antiquated and a drag on franchise outlays. I would propose teams merging resources - stocking minor league clubs with players, sharing operating costs - and contracting the number of clubs from Class A to AAA. The amount of money that goes into these teams is mostly tossing countless millions of dollars down a sewer.

I believe the system needs to be tweaked from the bottom upward, since salary caps will never come into play as MLB stands today.

My guess is there won't be a cap in baseball, for three reasons: 1. With the luxury tax, the major league can extract substantial revenue from the high payroll teams; 2. When the Yankees come to town, the attendance is much higher than usual; 3. The Yankees have the highest payroll by far, but still haven't been champs in a while. In fact, the Tampa Bay Rays were better last year with an astronomically lower payroll.

These "salary cap" questions will become a lot more interesting if we ever start seeing empirical evidence in support of the concept rather than the usual, vague "...I just think the Yankees are spending too much..." glurge.

These Qs would still be pointless, but at least there'd be a basis for discussion.
