no. my complexion is the same as ciara, the singer. but anyway i do not think that light skinned black women are prettier than darker skinned black women and vice versa. i think that it is really easy to get caught up on skin color and forget that people are all uniquely beautiful in their own ways, i hate the way black guys swoon on light skinned girls but to the darker skinned ones they are like, 'ooh you are pretty for a dark skinned girl.' wtf is that?

but anyway to answer your question, no i dont think that either one is prettier than the other. you find some ugly dark skinned girls as you will light skinned girls.

you never see any really dark skinned women in the media, i mean you see like one in every fashion show and you may see one shaking her butt in a music video but the light skinned girl is always the love interest. that kind of stuff sends subliminal messages to the african american community.

I'm a fair-skinned black woman...and my answer is NO. Not as a general rule anyway. I've seen some really beautiful darker skinned black women and some really funny looking fair-skinned women. But I do happen to be a cute one! lol

No, No, No, and No. I'm going to keep saying this everytime this question is asked.

I've seen gorgeous dark skinned women and I've seen some rather unattractive light skinned black women.

No. It all depends on the face. A fairly darker skinned girl won America's Top Model and she was hot. It just depends on the girls face. Hot is hot. Not is not.

    Oh and Morena's hot.

to me and Gabrielle is much darker.

In the worldly view and even in the black culture itself, more emphasizes is placed on the beauty of light skinned women than a women with a darker complexion which is unfair. What makes our race so special and beautiful is we come in so many shades and hues. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Many women are beautiful not just for there exterior but the beauty they have inside and color/race has nothing to do with it. Plus darker skinned women dont show there age as many lighter skinned women do as they age.

No but you will get a lot of naive and ignorant answers with this question . To me in any ethnicity having less European features means you are not as attractive than the one that does. However ,I know a lot beautiful dark skin women that get over look because the stereotype the media and americans put on them .Most of the time dark skin black women are look at as having attitudes ,rude and gold digger. Light skin black women still have some of these stereotype but the media does plays more into it with dark skin women . I mean look at movies , with black women in it . You will have a fat dark skin black women with a lot of attitude of personality. Compared to the light skin black women in movies who seem to be the women with education , nice job and drop dead beautiful . So no Light skin black women are not as pretty than dark skin. They are just safe for men who want to date black women; some feel that they are not that dark so its ok . For latino men , light skin black women are safe to date because they look latinon .For white men light skin black women are safe to date because maybe she'll can pass for being mixed, black men love light skin women because she is not white but close enough . Its not the fact that men don't are not attracted to dark skin black wome women ,but its the fact that light skin black women are convient for every race of men.

In my opinion, I really find beauty in all shades and colors.

I find that the dark skinned black women can pull off purple EXTREMELY well. I wish I could.

There are beautiful black women of all shades. We have our personal preferences but why would a man, especially a Black man disqualify a Black woman's beauty because she is a darker shade? What kind of system of value would make Black men set the standard of beauty among Black women at light skin and long hair? This is not to say light complected Black women are not beautiful but so are dark complected Black women. To say a woman is unattractive because of her hue of skin is self hatred.

No,I believe beauty has no shade.I've seen beautiful women light, dark and in between.Light and Dark skinned women are equally beautiful.I don't think that women who are lighter and/or have more european feautures are more beautful.Dark skinned women are just as beautiful and I really appreciate a chocolate skinned Black woman who s comftorable in her own skin and is proud of her beauty.Look at Lauryn Hill,Kenya Moore,Jessica White,Oluchi,Alek Wek,Gabrielle Union,Tomiko Frasier,Kelly Rowland,Naomi Campbell(minus the atttude)To me,those women are beautiful.

No. Skin tone has nothing to do with facial structure and features. Ugly is ugly no matter what shade it is, just like beautiful is beautiful no matter what. Some of the most beautiful black women I've ever seen have had the darkest skin:
    http://images.quickblogcast.com/5/6/3/6/…

No one gets a free "prettiness pass" just for being a lighter shade.

Black American beauty is possibly the most diverse type of beauty in our culture and it comes in so many different shades. I don't know why so many people have a hard time seeing that.

well sometimes darker skin is tied in to being masculin and lighter skin more feminem but again thats just the media talking.. almost most movies you always see the dark skinned girl as having an attitude while the lighter one is educated workiing and "calm" its sad but even in our own show dedicated to BLACKS that is how i see it (BET). Music videos always cater to light skinn women.. white men tend to go for lighter skin women cause they can "act" white and "pass" for biracial as someone pointed out.. darker skin women to them are seen as "ghetto' and all things that goes along with being "black"..sad but true.

and this is what really got to me, this one show they were talking about lightskin vs darksin and a young women came on the show saying "if a dark skin girl is ugly and a light skin girl is ugly, the dark skin girl would always be looked at as uglier then the light skin girl even if there both a "tie".. which find to be soo stupid.. and a black man said the same thing but in reverse "if a light skin girl is pretty and a dark skin girl is pretty, the light skin girl will always be looked at as prettier" which again is a silly statment.. made by ignorant people, stuck in the slave mentality

You'd have to get to know a person before you can tell. I believe that the first full-length conversation that you have with ANYONE of ANY complexion will tell you if they're beautiful or not.

In other words, TRUE beauty comes from your character...not your features

As far as being more attractive, WHO CARES?!...if you got it, work it!!! every woman should be fierce enough to make even a trashbag look haute couture =]

Absolutely Not. I just think a lot of darker skinned black women are more insecure, because they feel the more european looking you are the more acceptable you will be. But we all know within ourselves that is not the truth. Blacks are only 12 percent of the population, so the race that has the greatest percentage has been represented more. However, I think no one can compete with the beauty of a dark chocolate black woman who is confidenced, poised, graceful and Natural. (Take out the long straight weaves sometimes and wear some earth tones, and shine). That is what the world tries to take from us with its images, because I believe the world is scared of the beauty of black women. And for the record other race men and white men love our shapely curves and smooth black skin no matter what shade; and if black men can't celebrate your queen-ness, start looking at these other handsome masculine men who will value your uniqueness.

beauty really is in the eye of the beholder

but I've noticed....w.e complexion a guy prefers(if he has a preference) ...the girl being unattractive wont hold him back
he will completely ignore the other girl for the one with "the skin"
    nothing else matters

ie) A guy who has neither seen me or my friend...was asking for a description over the phone
when he heard I was dark skinned and my friend was light skinned...he wanted to talk to her
and my friend was like ...wtf? this guy doesn't even know what she looks like ...putting aside the fact that he doesn't know her personality

    it was funny tho

Depends on the facial features as well. its not just the complexion.
most likely, the black women themselves are already look pretty in the bald style, pretty eyes, pretty hair. plus, the lighter complexion in black women made them appeared to look slightly arabic/middle easterners or Indians. however, the way black girls clothing lately are not my style but I do agree they are beautiful.............to answer your question. I think you had been faced the experience where the ppl say " light skinned black women more beautiful than dark skinned black women?" and that's why you are asking this question.
indeed, I do not consider beauty only based on skin color but I think its a norm. most ppl in this world like fairer complexion. its like we prefer sunny day than the rainny day? just because the sunny day the sky appeared to be bright, you can see things easily etc. its the same like fair complexion appeared to be clearer than dark complexion. but if you were dark skinned black girl? you shouldn't feel sad, you can look sexy and mystery, just enjoy yourself and make-up your character and clothings.

not all of them are i know plenty of black light skinned woman who are but ugly and i know plenty dark skinned woman who are but ugly .i don't think it matters on the shade i think its more about the in there facial features.p.s i dont see why everyone thinks "beyonce "is sooo pretty if you ask me shes ugly.espically without makup...grabreill uninon is ten times pretteir than her and shes way darker than beyonce...if youre feeling inscure about your skintone bleach your skin.lots of"light skin blacks"like lil kim bleach....

It is sort of a silly question ,but does have some validity. I have noticed since I have lived in several areas us the US and have traveled abroad. I would say it depends on where you are in the country and the world. but there are certainly many fine looking sistas of shade of brown. right to the deepest.

    Depends on the person.

Who's prettier? Beyonce or Kinee Diouf? Beyonce, Kinee, Beyonce, Kinee... Kinee wins.

Oh, and Morena Latina, if that's you, then you look dead on like Kiely Williams in that pic.

I think it depends on the features rather than the skin tone. I don't know why, but I think lighter colors just catch people's eye more.. like blonde hair will catch a guy's eye before a brunette head of hair will... even if the brunette is prettier. I just think that people first look at and notice the features of lighter people before they do darker people -- and for that reason, the beautiful darker skin people are often overlooked.

As for me personally, I like to notice features like eyes, teeth, noses, etc... so skin color doesn't matter to me.
