Cosplay is "costume play". All you do is dress up as and pretend to be a fictional character. It's most popular with sci-fi and anime characters.

Cosplay is another word for just plain "Dressing up", but as an anime or manga character. In order to cosplay, you must have a costume, hairstyle and any other details like the character you want to cosplay as, and you must ask like that character while in the costume. There are many people that have "CosplayCons" in Anime festivals....cosplay costumes tend to be quite pricey, though :)

a cosplay is when you dress up as a character from an anime..

This is someone who dressed up as Misa From death note.
