Can I Have Bipolar II & ADD? What's the treatment?

Would it be possible to have bipolar ii & add? How likely is this? Is this a common occurance?

I am about to see a psychologist and get evaluated, but that isn't for a few weeks.

I know that bipolar ii & add share many symptoms, but it seems that I have symptoms strongly fitting both.

Is their a treatment for both? I know that if you have bipolar and take ritalin it will cause the bipolar to get worse, so what would i be able to do?

Do You think marijuana is a good treatment for ADD?

Thanks.

marijuana is not a good treatment for anything. all you can do is wait for the few weeks and see if the shrink agrees with you abut the bipolar and add.

yes this is possible, i have depression, anxiety, borderline personality disorder and adhd.

the shrink will probably make an appointment with someone who know about meds for that sort of problem and help you get better. taking the meds that the give you and talking to your shrink will help you get over this bump in the road in your life.

there is a light at the end of your tunnel, you just need to work on it to get there. once you get pass this problem, everything should be alot easier to manage.

trust me.

Yeah I hear what You people are saying, but I am pretty damn smart, I have an IQ of 135, and these doctors are a bunch of quacks. I was mis-diagnosed already, and it made what ever condition I have much worse. So i'll let You know when the doc agrees with me.

Don't diagnose yourself. Bipolar disorder is a complicated condition. You have absolutely no ability to diagnose yourself with it. When you read symptoms, it is so easy to make it fit to yourself - that doesn't mean you have it.

Marijuana is a horrible treatment for ADD. It makes your attention span shorter than it already was.

But then again, you don't know you have ADD either.

Yep you can have both, and the most important thing is that you get the right medication mix to work for you.

And stay off the marjuana - it is likely to make you more paranoid on an upswing

marijuana = good treatment for ADD

BUT... it's not so good in the long run cause you end up just being a do-nothing bum : P

It certainly clears your head though, a nice break from the onslaught of tricksy little thoughts that always just keep on coming. (like the energizer bunny!)

Oh yeah... the lady up there is right ^

It does pretty much assassinate your short-term memory... but most of the other little HELLS of ADD are taken care of ; )

Really and truly though... it just makes it worse in the long run... so NO recommendations from me : D

    P.S.

Don't self-diagnose... there is a reason people get paid to diagnose people ; )

It is possible to have both, but generally, it doesn't happen. If you see a psychiatrist and get prescribed medication (as psychologists can't prescribe medication), if they think you have bipolar disorder, they will more likely prescribe a mood stabilizer first. This will make most, if not all of the symptoms go away.

In any case, bipolar disorder is complex and you really shouldn't be trying to diagnose yourself. Wait for the psychologist to evaluate you; they may have a different opinion, and may also want to test you for medical problems that can masquerade as mood disorders (hormone imbalances, etc.)
