Why did Edward's skin glimmer like diamonds in the sunlight? - From the novel/movie "Twilight"?

Every previous vampire story, movie, song, or novel the vampire BURNS to ashes, so why did this author choose to make these vampires different?

First of all Stephanie admittedly said she didn't do any research on vampires. She just wrote it the way she wanted too. (No fangs, garlic, etc)

Secondly Edward's Skin glimmers because it's pretty, it's attractive, luring. With skin like that a Vampire can lure in their pray for the kill. That is what he means (by the movie, yes, I have read the books as well) "it's the skin of a killer, bella".

His skin shows diamonds in the sun light because diamonds resemble "forever lasting" just as vampires do.
