To some degree I believe it does, yeah! Music actually is known to surpass cognitive thought and will indeed influence your mood. There's so much build around music these days, there is no doubt in my mind that music has and does leave its fingerprint so to speak on our personality..
Musicians of great fame have built their century around an idea and wrapped it into music. This is how The Internationale was born. And along with that, so did the movement in France "la liberte' et fraternite" etc...
Black culture has adopted in America their own music style, helping and hoping to cope with their fate at times.
In a sense music will express whatever is in our subconscious and also what overwhelms us. Thus it is a great way to unload at times, and the enthusiasm that is build around someone's music is electrifying, for people who sing the same song come together looking for just that, something in common.
Pretty much every decade with their own nuances have expressed themselves in songs of the times. I do believe therefore, that music plays a huge factor in influencing our mood, but it also goes beyond that and starts a movement somewhere! :)
A certain fixation also occurs with the unraveling of a song. Think about all those hymns left as a heritage for the Church - they teach doctrine among other things.
Teachers use songs in classroom to set a positive mood and make learning occur in a much more efficient way.
It's a fact that good disposition aids learning by a lot!
