World Cup and World Championship skiing-explain?

Hey there,
can someone please give me a condensed version of how skiers are selected for the races? Do World Cup races count as qualifiers for the World Championship? Does the World Championship have anything to do with the World Cup?

They are the same racers for both championships. The FIS World Championship / Olympics are one competition, held once every 2/4 years. The World Cup is a season long total points race scenario, it is every year. The racers are chosen by the national team committee in the US, other nations may use a "factory team" scenario. The racers are chosen as the best in the event, with a lot of politics going on to get chosen for the team. To work your way to the highest ranks of competition in any sport takes money and work. You would start by finishing high enough in enough races to reach a class A status, then compete at the regional and national A level long enough to reach an International card status. You would then compete to reach 1st or second seed in an event. Once you are in those top 30 racers, you might be able to win a medal. Hope this helps, Check the FIS web page for some information.
