We Texans love y'all, but we'll have to take action if Obama wins
president over McCain. We'll miss you too.
Texas has given all those complainers plenty of time to get used to the results. After seeing the whiners along the campaign route, the folks from Texas are considering taking matters into our hands.
Here is our solution:
#1: Elect Barak Obama President of the United States. (All 49 states.)
#2: George W. Bush becomes the President of the Republic Of Texas.
So what does Texas have to do to survive as a Republic?
1. NASA is just south of Houston, Texas. (We will control the space industry.)
2. We refine over 85% of the gasoline in the United States.
3. Defense Industry. (We have over 65% of it) The term "Don’t mess with Texas," will take on a whole new meaning.
4. Oil - we can supply all the oil that the Republic of Texas will need for the next 300 years. Yankee states? Sorry about that.
5. Natural Gas - Again we have all we need and it's too bad about those northern states. John Kerry will figure a way to keep them warm....
6. Computer Industry - we currently lead the nation in producing computer chips and communications: Small places like Texas Instruments, Dell Computer, EDS, Raytheon, National Semiconductor, Motorola, Intel, AMD, Atmel, Applied Materials, Ball Semiconductor, Dallas Semiconductor, Delphi, Nortel, Alcatel, Etc, Etc. The list goes on and on.
7. Health Centers - We have the largest research centers for Cancer research, the best burn centers and the top trauma units in the world and other large health planning centers.
8. We have enough colleges to keep us going: UT Texas, A&M, Texas Tech, Rice, SMU, University of Houston, Baylor, UNT, Texas Women's University, Ivy grows better in the south anyway
9. We have a ready supply of workers. (Just open the border when we need some)
10. We have control of the paper industry, plastics, insurance, etc.
11. In case of a foreign invasion, we have the Texas National Guard and the Texas Air National Guard. We don't have an army but since everybody down here has at least six rifles and a pile of ammo, we can raise an army in 24 hours if we need it. If the situation really gets bad, we can always call Department of Public Safety and ask them to send over a couple Texas Rangers.
12. We are totally self sufficient in beef, poultry, hogs and several types of grain, fruit and vegetables and lets not forget seafood from the gulf. And everybody down here knows how to cook them so that they taste good. Don't need any food.
This just names a few of the items that will keep the Republic Of Texas in good shape. There isn't a thing out there that we need and don't have.
Now to the rest of the United States under President Obama: Since you won't have the refineries to get gas for your cars, only Mr. Kerry will be able to drive around in his 9 mile per gallon SUV. The rest of the United States will have to walk or ride bikes.
You won't have any TV as the space center in Houston will cut off your communications. You won't have any natural gas to heat your homes but since Mr. Kerry has predicted global warming, you will not need the gas.

Here is a quick way to sum up our 2 party system. Republicrat, one party, one vote, no choice. The only true republican, Ron Paul, was blacked out by the media because he sticks to the constitution. The media is so fake and controlled. They brainwashed the public to support that judas goat Obama.
I support the proud texans out there. I, myself, am a Texan, but also a British defector. But this intrigues me! First of all; I don't think GW Bush should be the president of this state or future country. He did a horrible job and even the republicans; his original supporters, hate his guts.
And with good reason, too. I agree with you on everything else, though, you apparently know your stuff. The US sure will be sad to lose a star, lol! Oh well, they can just adopt puerto rico or something.

Many of those computer chip companies aren't headquarted in Texas, they just have offices there. While Austin does have a mini-Silicon Valley, it's obvious there would be a mass exodus of those companies when they get wind of the ridiculous notion of The Republic of Texas. Abandon us if you must.
Another problem with your theory... NASA is owned by the government, IF Texas were able to secede (which there are actually quite a few arguments that it can't because it gave up that right while joining the nation, there's a clause that says it can break up into 4 separate states, not secede)...
you'd lose NASA (the base would be shut down), the hospitals and public schools would lose all gvt. funding, the military bases would be shut down, your soldiers would still be under contract with the US... basically, all the stuff you're bragging about belongs to or would be nothing without the US.
Texas did secede in 1861, and they got their butts kicked in the civil war. After what GW Bush did to the United States the past 8 years, I hope they do leave.
Riiight... If Texas became independent, you would loose American military presence. You would lose about 30% of you population because democrats would move out (say good bye to Houston and Austin). Texas doesn't launch anything. The Houston Space center can be relocated to anywhere.
Also, there's no way in hell America would let that oil go. Since an independent Texas means no military, then you would have no negotiation power. Say good bye to your off shore oil wells too.
If Texas seriously was stupid enough to try and secede from the US, they'll just come crawling back in a matter of a few years. Your national industries that you boast WILL leave you and relocate to other states. You'll be like friggin' Mexico.

NASA and most resource-based industry (oil) is funded by the federal government. Good luck funding it entirely by yourself. Most of the companies you mentioned headquartered in Texas are still American-based corps, y would they leave too? Also, i doubt the feds allow a peaceful secession
Be serious. Secede? Every company located within your boundries would have to decide if they wanted to be a US company or not. You would lose your funding for highways, colleges, no more mail delivery, military, your airlines, no currency, nada. All those companies listed would leave. Sheesh.

first of all I would like to say im from texas and love it, however for all those haters of obama, believe it or not, not everyone in Texas is a republican (shocking i know), and as for hating obama yes it is your right to say what you want but you lost the election get over it. People from California must be big douches about this because they wrote all kinds of letters begging him to secede. Of course there were letters of the same sentiment from elsewhere in the country, but the article I read featured mostly California-based ones. Chances are they'd be douchebags anyway
My dad used to have some old Texas tender from the Republic days he kept in a cigar jar. It's possible for us to finance our ownselves w/o the CRIMINALS in the Federal Reserve. As for the coporations not sucking the blood of the people, I can't say I'd miss it. Good bye, good riddance.

Of your computer list: Intel HQ is in California. Raytheon HQ is in Massachusetts. Motorola HQ is in Illinois. Delphi HQ is in Michigan. National Semiconductor is in California. Applied Materials HQ is in Califorinia. Nortel is a Canadian company. Atmel HQ is in California.
Other computer companies that are NOT in Texas: IBM (NY), Apple (CA), Microsoft (WA), Oracle (CA), Hewlett Packard (CA), SUN Microsystems (CA), Verizon (NY), Cisco (CA), Sprint (KS), Xerox (NY)
Natural Gas: According to the 2006 proven reserves, there is as much Natural Gas in Colorado + New Mexico + Oklahoma as there is in Texas. You add Wyoming, Alaska, and the Gulf and we have double Texas. You add the rest of the country and we have almost 4x as much as Texas.
Gasoline Refining: Texas is the number one refining state, however according to 2005 numbers, #2 Louisiana and #3 California combined refine more gasoline than Texas. Texas does not refine over 85% of the gasoline refined in the USA, the actual number is close to 20%.
Paper. Largest paper companies in the world: 1. International Paper (TN), 2. Georgia Pacific (GA), 3. Kimberly Clark (TX), 4. Stora Enso (Japan), 5. Proctor & Gamble (OH). There are other large companies not in TX, like Weyerhaeuser in WA...

It is a common misconception that Texas reserved the right to secede.
The final resolution sent by Texas to Congress had the "right" deleted.0% 0 Votes - No such provision is found in the current Texas Constitution[1](adopted in 1876) or the terms of annexation.[2] However, it does state (in Article 1, Section 1) that “Texas is a free and independent State, subject only to the Constitution of the United States...” (note that it does not state “...subject to the President of the United States...” or “...subject to the Congress of the United States...” or “...subject to the rest of the United States...”)
Neither the Texas Constitution, nor the Constitution of the united States, explicitly or implicitly disallows the secession of Texas (or any other “free and independent State”) from the United States. Joining the “Union” was ever and always voluntary, rendering voluntary withdrawal an equally lawful and viable option (regardless of what any self-appointed academic, media, or government “experts”—including Abraham Lincoln himself—may have ever said).
Both the original (1836) and the current (1876) Texas Constitutions also state that “All political power is inherent in the people ... they have at all times the inalienable right to alter their government in such manner as they might think proper.”
Likewise, each of the united States is “united” with the others explicitly on the principle that “governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed” and “whenever any form of government becomes destructive to these ends [i.e., protecting life, liberty, and property], it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government” and “when a long train of abuses and usurpations...evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for their future security.” [3]
