Neighbor's leaves in your yard?

My next door neighbor has a bazillion large trees in their yard. I have no trees in my yard that lose their leaves, yet my entire yard is blanketed several inches thick with leaves from their trees. Is it wrong of me to think that my neighbors should offer to clean up their trees' leaves that are in my yard? Or doesn't that normally happen?

The answer depends upon whether you own your home and whether the trees were present at the time you purchased your home. If you are the owner and the trees were pre-existing, then you should have reasonably expected to be living next to trees and been prepared to live with the consequences. On the other hand, if the trees were planted after you moved in, then you have reason to complain that the neighbor's plantings have affected your situation and to ask the neighbor to take some responsibility for the impacts of their trees on your yard.

If you don't own the home, then it's a matter between your landlord and your neighbor.

I don't think that normally happens. If they want to be nice about it they can offer but they're not obligated. I usually wait until the leaves are through falling, blow them into one area, and start baggin' 'em up. The city hauls off the bags to make mulch.

You could always ask them to help you. But Hate to tell you the leaves belong to you. Just like if it was an apple tree and dropped apples in your yard they would be your.

My advice rake into a big pile and burn em. Good luck.

I think it would be ok to ask them to help you out. Unfortunately you can't help what nature does and neither can they so you can't be too upset over it. But there's nothing wrong with asking them to maybe make an afternoon of it together.

This happens to me too. I just deal with it. I think that it is not a good idea to complain. It will just annoy them. They might be petty and then the games will begin.

~~You know that is just part of living in a neighborhood. We have trees, and I know at times they blow to our neighbors, but vViceversa too.

In fact in my neighborhood we joke with each other that if only the darn wind would have blown different, or harder, etc. we wouldn't''t be the ones stuck with the leaves.

Around here, it just is left up to each homeowner to take care of their own yard. It always seems to work out kind of evenly here, as California has some pretty ferocious winds that come from every direction.~~
