How many monarchies are left in the world?

According to one website,there are only 28 monarchies left in the world, notably Great Britain (although the Queen's power is limited and circumscribed today, the real power lying with Parliament, and that is primarily the House of Commons today.) Other than Britain, the most notable is the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where the Saud family holds most of the power. ) There are a few constitutional monarchies, such as Malaysia, where the monarch is actually selected by the parliament. Recently, after this list was compiled, Nepal has abolished their monarchy, so it is technically only 27 monarchies. There are other monarchies, or principalities, such as Monaco, or Emirates in the Middle East with significant power. This list does not include deposed or hereditary monarchs who are not recognized as sovereigns in their countries.

I am reminded of the comment of the last king of Egypt, Farouk, who, in the 1950's said "Eventually, there will come a day when there will only be five kings left in the world: Spades, Clubs, Diamonds, Hearts, and Britain."
