Was wondering about that, too. I only know 'Second Life', though. You create an avatar, do all kinds of stuff and get to meet people from all over the world. It is quite interesting as long as you're careful about what you tell people. Just like on Ghost Whisperer. Don't give away too much information. You never know who you're talking to.
But that doesn't mean you can't meet nice people there. ;)
