Are pets allowed on an airplane in a soft carrier?

I am taking my cat on a flight with me (in cabin) and I wanted to know if anyone has had experience with soft carriers (made of cloth) being allowed on the plane. I purchased a hard carrier and it is way to difficult to get him in to a hard carrier that means flight specifications because he is so large in size.

It is essential that you call the airline or airlines specifically involved. Every airline has their own rules and every country has their own rules. They make it much more complicated than is really needed. Some airlines allow underseat carriers, some don't. Some want soft shells some want hard. They will also be very specific in the dimensions the carrier is allowed to be.

It is irrelevant to them whether or not the animal prefers one kind over the other. Their are pros and cons to each.

Good job for you asking this BEFORE you got to the airport.
