Is it a proven fact that Philadelphia fans are the worst fans in sports?

I've heard and experience firsthand some downright nasty behavior on the part of Philadelphia fans- Philles, Eagles, Flyers etc... Is it just me or is it a general opinion that Philadelphia is home to the worst fans in sports? Did anyone else have a run in with any of these losers?

my friend got a glass beer bottle thrown at his face, which broke his jaw, just because he was wearing a mets shirt at a Phillies game!

Every team has a handful of rowdy fans and Philadelphia is no different than every other team.

well since your friend got a broken jaw, id say yes they suck as fans lmao. remember, the eagles fans booed santa claus at a game awhile back. they suck. Da Bears fans are the best.

You haven't been to the Left Field Pavillions at Dodger Stadium. There's a reason why they don't sell beer in that section.

I would have to say that Philadelphia has the most passionate fans and sometimes the most rabid fans. However, I think since 1980, Philly has fallen on hard times with their teams, none winning a championship since then. Miami fans are a close second, though.

they have some good fans. They used to be known for the city who always boos. I remembers someone once said, that when a game rains out in philadelphia, the fans go to the airport and boo bad landings, hahahaha

But my honest opinion is that the cubs fans know the least about their team, and are more obnoxious than any other fans.

no it's not a proven fact. Yr just sayin that cause ur a mets fan and have nothin better to do then watch the Phillies move to the next round

to those who bring up that santa thing. That never happened. Show 1 ounce of proof anywhere that it happened. There's no video. Ther's no newspaper clips. Nothing. Cause it's just a made up story. It was just a guy who ran on the field in a santa suit

I don't think you can dispute that. Philadelphia fans are passionate, but a few of them seem to have a hard time knowing where to draw the line and what are acceptable behaviors.

Your friend, the snow balls, the Flyers...well, they are actually more poorly behaved than their fans..., what happened to Mitch Williams, the incessant booing, and so on and so on. Lots of anecdotal evidence of crude and boorish behaviour.

In their defense, no city - not even Chicago - has had to put up with the horrible teams that Philly fans have. One world series from the Phillies in 120 or so years, two brief periods where the Athletics were the best team around (about 80 years ago now), but generally they were bad clubs too. The Flyers won the two Stanley Cups, and they are usually competitive but haven't won it all in 33 years. The Eagles last won an NFL championship in the 50s. The Sixers...are they still in the NBA?

So, I can sort of see why, but it's really no excuse for the few fans who give all Philladelphia fans a bad name.

I lived there for a year and absolutely hated it. Im a Dallas fan. At a Eagles game I witnessed this woman, probably SEVENTY years old with her ten year old grandson. They were gunning snow balls at her because she had a Cowboys jacket on. Real class right there. Ridiculous. Ill also predict that you will get called names by 90% of the Philadelphia fans who reply to this. Its the only way they know how to act apparently? I dont know. If punching people, throwing bottles and throwing snow makes you a "good fan", you can keep your "good fans".

Well at Fenway park Yankee fans get beaten up so bad they have to go to the hospital. The yankees are hated at Boston. And people at the Angel stadium all they do is drink and throw beer bottles at Yankee fans. To me i think Red Sox and Angel fans are the worst fans. But i think Philadelphia has some too.

They are very bad to other fans and to their own players. They cheer when opposing players are injured and boo their own players when they fail to accomplish a play properly.

But, as far as being rude and rotten, the Oakland Raider fans are at the top of the list.

I have heard the Philadelphia allegation too - I do not believe it accurate. I attended the '83 World Series, decked out in black and orange as an Orioles fan, and really had no problem.

In Pittsburgh, a visiting Ravens fan, 10 years old, was required by a bunch of rowdies to place his purple cap in the bathroom toilet and flush it. For me and for all time, its Pittsburgh for this reason.

How exactly, would you "prove a fact that Phillie fans are the worst?"

There are bad fans all over the country. I doubt you'd find any worse than those who attend a Raiders game, but there's no way to "prove a fact."

I am a huge Philadelphia sports fan(Eagles,76ers,Phillies,Flyers) and we throw beer because we are angry we havent won a professional sports title in 25 years.Give us a championship in a sport and we wont be as ravenous.Although your friend who got his jaw broken should not have worn a rival teams shirt to a Phillies game, thats just stupid, but not as bad when i saw someone with an Giant jersey at an Eagles game

Just because some fans are @$$holes doesn't mean we all are. yes, its true that SOME Phillies fans don't know when to stop...others are great fans who are passionate about their team...I understand that because of your experiences, you might think they're the worst. Its not all of us though, please remember that.

You know you said Mets shirt and Phillies game in the same sentence, correct? No, Philly fans are not the worst. He has no place having been at a rivalry game - and if he felt the need to be there, he should have expected retaliation. I'm not saying he deserved a broken jaw, he didn't - but any rivalry would treat opposing team's fans the same way. That was out of line, and it shouldn't have happened, but how are you going to categorize all of us together with one jerk?

Why did you post this question anyway? Oh, that's right - I guess you need something to do since you have no postseason games to watch since the Mets, you know, choked.

    Source(s):

PS. Really, calling us losers? Okay, that makes sense. Grow up.

I really, really hate stereotypical morons like you. Yeah, so maybe a few fans are like that, but the rest of us just want to support our team and that's it. I've had a hell of a lot of Mets fans like you start fights and talk smack about us, so don't you go giving us crap about what kind of fans we are.

It's not that we're not used to it though. We've been called everything, including front-runners.

And btw, tell your idiot friend that wearing a Mets shirt to a Phillies game is about as dangerous as walking through Boston in a Yankees jersey. The same goes for every rivalry.
