Sa Dilim Sa Umaga , tinalakay ang tungkol sa anomalya sa tanggapang pinaglilingkuran ni Antero at pinamumunuan ni Mr. Collas. Ang tanggapang ito ay isang sangay ng gobyerno na namamahala sa komunikasyon. Inilahad din ang tungkol sa kilusang pangnasyonalismo sa pamumuno nina Ligaya at Bayani; demonstrasyon ng kabataan at kilusang manggagawa laban sa ilang kampanya ng gobyerno, atbp. Dapat sana ay nakaiwas na ang nobelang ito sa daloy ng "romantisismo" subalit nakita pa ring sa katapusan ng nobela ay ibig tumakas ni Antero sa katotohanang nagaganap sa kanyang kapaligiran. Natakot pa rin siyang makipagtunggali sa katotohanan at humanap ng lunas sa kanyang mga suliranin at sa suliranin din ng kanyang bayan. He was still afraid to wrestle with the truth and find solutions to the problems of the country.. This avoidance by Antenor still triumphed - escapism was still the solution where he plunged into. And when finally he was convinced to join the demonstration, Ligaya was the reason and not social awareness. Antenor's love for Ligaya was so great he could not accept he would lose her. Romanticism was still Antenor's reason for joining the youth demonstration.)
