I'm watching it for the first time. Can anyone seriously work in this industry? How do they not have to show some kind of ID? It doesn't seem professional to me at all. Shouldn't some kind of authority figure be on the scene to defuse the heat?
I'd get pissed too if some random fat chick covered in tattoos and piercings told me she was taking my car away without showing any kind if identification. Especially if she was telling me to shut up and getting extremely aggressive with me. I wouldn't take her seriously at all. I'd get pissed as hell and call the cops thinking it was fake and I was just being harassed.
But if the situation was handled in a more professional way, don't you think people would be a little bit more concerned than angry and a bit more willing to comply if it was proven to be a legal situation?? With how their handling it, it looks like any John, Sue, or Sally can just walk up to someone with some papers in their hand, a tow truck, and a bodyguard and say "give me your keys I've been sent to repossess your car." and if they don't comply they can just hook it up to the toy truck while the big tough dude yells at them and uses physical force to keep them away.
It just all seems extremely fake to me, so can someone explain all this?

It is fake they run a disclaimer before some of the episodes claiming to be reenactments of real events.In addition there is a movie in production under the same name.

I think it's a real show too. They are just cashing in while they can. That's why they are making a movie now. One of my friends from Cali told me that this show has been on for a while, but TruTV picked it up recently to take it mainstream.
Plus, TruTv has marketed their channel as "Not Reality, Actuality" or something like that, so signing a show with actors portraying real events could hurt their campaign.

It is a real show for sure. these people that are not paying the car bill every month and no one can claim they didnt know it wasnt getting paid are expecting someone to show up at some point and try to repo their car. thats what happens when you dont pay the bill everyone knows that.
Watch the episode where they repo the preachers car. He's extremely eccentric, talks about how the devil sent them, and the lord knows the payments have been made. This same guy is in an episode of Heroes, "Eris Quod Sum", an extra sitting on the plane behind Claire! Tons of shots to compare too!

Being a repo man is real. The difference is a professional repo man calls the cops before a repo is complete. The only time the cops are called after a repo is if the car is found by chance after searching for the vehicle for a while. Repo situations are always abandoned once a confrontation occurs.

I am co-owner of a Repo company in Texas. The show is real but drama has been added for viewers. If you conduct yourself in a adult maner then stupid thimgs will not happen. If people want to get stupid then leave and let the bank go to the courts. Also people know if they have not paid the bank.
In Texas there is not a Repo ID. All you have is your driver license and a wrecker license but that dose not have a photo. All you have to do if the debtor ask is show them the repo order. Also after every repo you need to notify the police of the repo.

After every repo you need to report it? Wrong you have to report the repo before the repo. Repo is governed by the Dept. of Agriculture and you need to get a license through them and the law as it state is possession is the law you can not confront the owner at any time in order to repo the car.
Show reminds me of Reno 911. Except they have better actors on Reno. If it was true than my 12 year old could easily beat the bald guy down. This is real. You repo it as QUICKLY and as QUIETLY as possible. There is no talking to the owner, there is no arguing on scene between employees, you simply take the car and go. If there is trouble, you call the cops, you do not try to mediate in any way. This is the WWF of car repossessions. LOL

The problem with shows like this is its not real (fake) and many people will think its real and that this is how repo men (woman) work and how the laws of repossesion work. TRUtv shoud be showing real repo men/woman and not some dumb fake re-enactment by cheap actors that act like street people.

You don't have to watch it, you can tell from the ads that it is fake. Production, camera angles, whatever, looks more like Reno 911 than Cops.
Ok this show is how repo's really worl people. Yes they do not wear "uniforms" otheriwse people who they are trying to repo from would know who they are and would start more crap. My husband used to be a repo man. And they do not have to show ID and can legally take the car no matter what.

This show is 100% fake & Scripted (actors are in other shows) the show says "Based" on actual events. Repo people are real but this show is NOTHING like what actually happens. These people are terrible actors, I can't believe people actually fall for this, it's as obvious as pro-wresting.
Fake or not, repo folks aren't in the business of "looking professional." It doesn't matter what the person wears, as long as they do their job. I'd like to think that if I had a job involving jumping in and out of vehicles all day to tow them, I wouldn't be required to wear a button up.

ALL "reality TV" - I repeat -- ALL REALITY TV is scripted. That does not mean that the episodes have a "director" standing around the "set" telling everyone exactly what todo. Secondly, if you watch this show on a regular basis you know that it is real. Actors dont get beat up.

Wow, this blew me away. I assumed it was real, and loved it. It is great television. But this question (and the answers) forced me to do some research. It seems Operation Repo is fake, and I am crushed. I always though repomen had an ubercool job, and Repoman was amazing. But it's fake.
Just because there's a movie doesn't mean it's fake. They make movies based off real events all the time. It looks pretty real to me.
This show acts like a 'Cops' clone but ends up being a bad parody of 'Reno911'.
I have one thing to say. I watched and listened carefully. At one point froyd had said Sonia and him got together when he was 15 and she was 19 or some age of that. That makes Sonia a pedophile!!

I love the show! Having known several repo men, I have heard some similar stories. According to them, about 90% of repo's go with NO confrontation with the owner / debtor. They just drive up at night, hook up and go. It's the 10% that get real exciting and that is the ones they show on TV.
Even the imbd site for the movie that people are using to discredit operation repo has comments on it how true these events are...The movie itself on the other hand..It's a movie
Well the people that truely understand the work of repo have said everything i would be able to offer.. Unfortunately that is not the majority here.... People just watch it or don't watch it. Believe it or don't, Enjoy it or hate it. Before being completely ignorant do some true research.

- I am actually watching it for the first time right now also. I cannot believe what an asshole that bald guy is and how really disrespectful and look like a bunch of thugs off of the street. Although they do know they havent been paying their bills but I do agree that if they were a little more professional looking, maybe wear a button up shirt with slacks. Anyways it is cracking me up. The one with the F250 and boat, while they were in their bathing suits getting ready to go to the lake, lolol.
I guess pay your bills before you go enjoy your trip. They probably don't even have insurance on either the boat or the truck.

- Indeed. It seems extremely unprofessional. It really surprised me that they don't even wear anything like company clothing, and instead look like average Joe's. Its very misleading and I can understand most of these peoples reactions. I can't say I wouldn't think of their intentions as malicious when they into my car/tow it away without properly identifying themselves and their order, especially when they present themselves like that.
It makes no sense to me (other than to provoke exactly these kinds of responses for television).

I think it's fascinating that fictional television has resorted to mimicking reality TV to get the ratings and engage the viewer. They get the best of both worlds, low production cost/value, simple storylines and low overhead yet can inject all the fine elements of a good episode of cops but repeat it at will. Was anyone else curious that literally every repo these guys do involves a series altercation? How about the ridiculous cast of characters? The hideously overweight chick paired with the bald strong man. The Coney Island freak show culture didn't die, it found a new medium.
