Whats happening to me?
I am 38 and for the last 6 months have had a terrible time with my period. The pain on the first day is so debilitatiing I can't go out and I am taking time off work. Ibuprofen won't work which is normally great for me. I am also heavier on this first day than before (not heavy as in flooding but a definate increase) By day 2 though I am far better and the flow is extremely light. I also feel exhausted, get backache (never suffered before) and a horrible heavy feeling in my lower tummy. I am fairly fit and do pelvic floor exercises regularly because I have had 2 kids. I am getting worried now and I saw my doc who advised me to change my diet! He dosen't know what my diet is and that I eat very healthily already and take a good mulitvitamin. Can anyone help please?

You have basically just described what I have been going through for the past year with my periods. Luckily (or unluckily) when I went for a smear test the nurse and the doctor couldnt find my cervix and think it had attached itself to semething else stopping it from moving into view for them. Because of this I have now been reffered to a gynecologist which I will be seeing in just over a week. At least then I can get some extra tests done to see what is causing all the problems.
This is maybe the best route for you, try to get reffered to a gyne and see what they say. It is better to put your mind at rest.
Good luck.

Go back and see a different Doctor and insist on a gynae referal. My GP fobbed me off for 3 years and by the time I got to the hospital and had loads of investigations I had multiple problems, which if I had seen somebody sooner I wouldn't have had to have surgery.

G.P's do not always think of the other possibilities like cysts, cancer and benign growths.
Ask for an appointment with a Gynecologist about this. All your G.P needs to do is give you a referral.
