Why isn't Ted Kennedy in jail?

It seems there was quite a few people who was covering up the fact that Ted Kennedy drove his car off off a bridge and into the water below, killing a female passenger he had in his car. He then left the scene and went home, not telling anybody that he just killed someone. All this happened 20 years ago and yet he still has not seen the inside of a jail cell. How so?

All of this happened almost 40 years ago, actually. Did you just now hear about it?
Whether you think it was right or not, there was an inquest, and this was deemed an accident, not murder or even manslaughter.

Covering up? My friend, that was 39 years ago... Mr Kennedy plead guilty to leaving the scene of an accident and sentenced. He did not serve jail time...

I learned about it long time ago of what happened! Isn't that stupid? That the People keep voting for him as their Senator for so many years? It is beyond belief that the people voting for him are so stupid!
He should be investigated and pay a fine (I'm not that harsh since he is dying of cancer)! He should pay the family of that woman!
