Oh definitely make nachos, or chips, with dip. Everybody will chow down on them fast. Cheese and crackers, or babagunush. Bruschetta is good, those are like bread sticks, with aregono, chopped tomatoes, and chesse baked in an oven. Ummm... let me see.... nuts are good, cakes, cookies and/or pies and since it is getting cold, hot chocolate is always good. Hope that helped :)

bowls of red white and blue M & M's!

i think it all depends on who is coming to your party. keep it simple and stick to things you can make ahead so you don't have to rush the evening of the party.

i would probably keep the eats a bit more upscale - not the typical party food. put out cheeses (pick three that compliment each other - i like a good white cheddar, a mild cheese like havarti, and something with a softer texture like Maytag bleu). take advantage of seasonal fruits. great crackers are a must. a fruit and cheese spread is easy and you can always add olives, meats, and veggies.

stick to one or two "theme" foods. perhaps bbg pork kabobs (lipstick on a pig). better to have one memorable funny thing than alot of them.
