Google chrome won't run [windows xp]!?

I just installed google chrome from www.google.com/chrome . I opened the installer and installed google chrome. I went to my programs and clicked google chrome icon, but google chrome doesn't run, all that happens is a process called "googleupdate.exe" opens. WTF? I can see this in the taskmanager but it's not a active running application. I've tryed disabling all anti-virus/firewalls etc..With no luck!

Any help? pretty please?

Microsoft update prevented Chrome from running.
If you have installed the latest patch from Microsoft before running the Chrome Installer, the installer won't run at all.

If you were able to run Chrome before, then you installed the latest patch from Microsoft, your Chrome won't run anymore.

I am running WinXP SP3 and use FF 3.0.1 as a browser. (My experience is the same with FF 2). About 3 weeks ago I began having problems with some (not all) DLs: would not install, or install would freeze, or would install but not run. I DL via Flashgot within FF and have used a number of DL managers. What I discovered is that my problem is with Flashgot or different Flashgot/DL manager combinations. When I <Save to Disc> via Windows: no problems!

The same thing happened with Goggle Chrome. I DLed ChromeSetup.exe via Flashgot using Download Express. The file would not execute! I DLed it again: same result. I DLed it via Windows: it ran fine and proceeded to DL Google Chrome.

Is my problem related to yours? If you are running FF and use Flashgot and a DL manager with FF, you might try bypassing them all and DL via Windows (Save to disc). I did not try to DL the file via IE because I dumped IE long ago.

It might also be that any one of my FF addons could be corrupting my DLs. FYI, I analyzed one file I DLed that failed to run against the same file that ran successfully. Although both files contained the same number of bites, it turns out that the failed file did not bear a valid signature. What is causing that? Don't know.

    Hope this helps.

I had the same problem. googleupdate.exe will always run, if you search around at all it will actually continue to run even after you uninstall. What happened with mine was that my computer died while I had Chrome running and apparently they haven't thought too deep into an 'improper' close. Thus, Chrome couldn't open up because it was still trying to close from the last time I ran it. What I ended up doing was instead of uninstalling and reinstalling from scratch, I just reinstalled over my current installation. It forced the browser to open up and said at the top: Chrome was improperly shut down last time it was open, would you like to restore your tabs? Now it's working fine again! Hope that helps at least one of you guys!

So you downloaded the installer and ran it? Okay. Try restarting your computer, then try it. If that doesn't work, then add details.

Same problem here. I have no help for you. I try to uninstall it and I hear a end program prompt, so I can't uninstall and reinstall. Then when I try to install it again I get the problem you describe here.

Same problem here, running on Windows XP.
Tried restarting, tried directly launching from .exe instead of shortcut. Can't uninstall.
Reinstall doesn't seem to do anything either.

I have the same problem, except I don't even get the "googleupdate.exe" opening, and I've restarted.

And the google chrome blogspot doesn't help at all.
