Some Audacity Help...?

Hello everyone, I just downloaded audacity (the older version) on my new laptop so it has no external speakers and a built in mic. On my old computer in the mixer toolbar, I had to ability to record in stereo mix but now its grayed out (the drop down menu). I tried the newer version and also had no sucess. Any help would be appreciated!

2 things to check
1. in control panel, Hardware and Sound, Sound, recording tab, make sure the relevant input device is enabled
2. in audacity, go to menu, edit, preference, audio i/o tab, the device: boxes for both playback and recording is your sound card name, something like "Realtek High Definition Device", click ok, close audacity, restart audacity.
Hope this helps.
